Young Adult Book-to-Movie Adaptations Coming in 2015

ya book to moive

2015 is the year YA is taking over the big screen. The Hunger Games and Divergent have opened a whole new window of movies to be made!

Book-to-movie adaptations are so exciting to me. I love seeing my favorite books turned into movies. When reading a book, we become the director. But as a reader, we create the world from the author’s words. It is in our hands or heads to create our own world through the characters’ eyes. When that job gets handed to a real director and movie crew it’s their job to actually make it come to life. So, when watching a movie it is important to remember that a movie and a book are two separate forms of entertainment. It’s easy to watch the movie and get angry because they left out your favorite part or changed it in any way. Try not to get caught up in that mindset and focus on the awesome movie they have made. If you start comparing them, then you’ll never be satisfied leaving the theater.

The Duff

Written by Kody Keplinger

Release date: February 20th

A comedy that focuses on Bianca Piper and her not-so-hot physique. She gets labeled as the D.U.F.F: the designated ugly fat friend. She enlists the help of the school man-slut to “un-duff” her. I haven’t actually read this book. But after seeing this trailer, I know I have to read it before I watch the movie.

Insurgent

Written by Veronica Roth

Release date: March 20th

Number one film I am most excited for. I’m ready to see how they bring this book to the big screen. It focuses on a war that surges in the factions of dystopian Chicago all around Tris while she attempts to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Paper Towns

Written by John Green

Release date: June 5th

John Green hits the big screen with another amazing book. Paper Towns focuses on Quentin Jacobsen or Q. He is pathetically in love with Margo Roth Spiegelman, and one night she bursts into his room dressed like a ninja ready to plot some revenge with Q. Suddenly Q thinks that this is it, that he finally gets Margo the girl of his dreams. That is until she disappears and Q is left with a mystery to solve and a girl to find. I can’t wait to see this made into a movie. I loved this book so much. I highly recommend reading this before the movie comes out!

The Scorch Trials

the scorch trials

Written by James Dashner

Release date: September 4th

I haven’t read or seen the Maze Runner, but I have heard nothing but awesome things about them. I know this adaptation is highly anticipated and another successful YA book-to-movie. The second book blurb says: “Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn’t done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch. There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die. The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them. Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off. There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive.”

Frankenstein

daniel radcliffe frankenstien

Written by Mary Shelley

Release date: October 2nd

Not a YA book but still super exciting. Everyone knows about Frankenstein and the monster he creates. This new movie, staring Daniel Radcliffe *gasp* who plays Igor (the monster), will shine some light on this already well-loved classic. Apparently it’s taking a never-before-seen approach on the whole story, told from Igor’s perspective and how a life of isolation has lead him to turn towards evil and revenge.

Mocking Jay Part 2

Written by Suzanne Collins

Release date: November 20th

(SPOILER ALERT*)

If you haven’t read the book then you have no clue what this movie has in store for you. If you have read the book then you can hold the ending over your friends’ heads while trying to convince them to read the book. This movie will pick off where the last movie left off. Peeta is back and tried to murder Katniss. It will be action-packed and a constant battle full of heartbreaking surprises. An awesome close to a great trilogy.

Fallen

fallen

Written by Lauren Kate

Release date: Sometime in 2015

I have not yet read this one either, but the Fallen series has been a best seller since it was first published. I’ve heard so many good things about this. The blurb on the back of the book sounds so good and will make for a great movie. “There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move. Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce—and goes out of his way to make that very clear—she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her. Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.”

I hope this helped you discover awesome books to read and movies to wait for!
