February Favorites

Hey y’all! I’m a day late on this post but yesterday was so busy I didn’t have time to sit and blog. Midterms ended on Friday so I’ve been on spring break and catching with family and friends. Anyways, I finally have the day to myself so I can catch up some blogging. February felt like it lasted forever. It was a cold month and Ohio couldn’t decide if it wanted to be spring or winter. I think we are finally settling towards spring though; I heard we’re supposed to get weather in the 70’s next week!

Beauty

  • Lime Crime Velvetine in Bleached– I’ve been wearing this product more sheer as opposed to a full on matte lip. I apply a think layer of lip balm, line my lips, and then apply a dot of Bleached on the center of my lips and blend in with my finger. This color gives a more natural and long lasting look. It surprisingly lasts long even with the lip balm underneath and when it does fade, it still looks good. My lips have been super dry this month and the last thing I want to put on is a drying liquid lipstick. So using this technique has been a good compromise.
  • My hair- I chopped it all off early this month and I’m obsessed. I’ve been bleaching my hair for over a year now (well not me technically, my hair stylist of course) and it was surprisngly healthy for how much it had been through. I took good care of my hair and Olaplex (click to read review) saved the integrity of my hair. My mother (hair stylist) is amazing at what she does and the fact she was able to keep my hair on my head and healthy after 10+ bleaches says a lot about how great she is at her work. I cut my hair simply because I am lazy when it comes to styling my hair. Regardless how healthy my hair was, it was still porous. Which is your hair’s ability to absorb moisture, obviously bleaching dries out hair. So it would take about 45 minuets to blow dry my hair and it was only to my chin! I couldn’t handle that and if I let it air dry, it looked frizzy. So my solution was to chop it off. I let my mother have fun with the cut and simply told her to do what looks best. Handing that control over to her was fun and it really challenged my anxiety. But I just wanted my mom to have fun while doing something she loved. I don’t regret it! Once you cut your hair you learn that it’s just hair and it will grow back. So I highly recommend trying something different!

Music

Ugh this month has not been a good music month. I only found a couple of new songs, so let me know if you have any recommendations.

Books

  • Dumplin‘ by Julie Murphy- Y’all I really, really loved this book. The main character is actually funny and her journey through self-love and acceptance is not what I expected. She’s relateable and that’s something hard to find because authors try to be “too hip” and they end up losing the authenticity of a real character. I learned valuable lessons from this book and I love being able to say that. I laughed out loud and even teared up a few times. Give this a read.
  • “There’s something about swimsuits that make you think you’ve got to earn the right to wear them. And that’s wrong. Really, the criteria is simple. Do you have a body? Put a swimsuit on it.”

Sorry this is so short. It was a busy month of being a broke college student. I hope March treats everyone well!
